Released in 2031, the album showcases a strong and fluid mix of different genres including jazz, rock, lo-fi, with jam band like ethics throughout. These new styles stemmed from Ryan’s new bandmates/friend groups, which introduced Ryan into different bands which included these elements. Ryan also cites the overall way the group interacted and hung out as a large influence as well.
Recording the album was done similarly to his previous album, “Hobbies”. Here however, a large amount of much more concise and tight song writing is presented. The album is often highlighted as an example of Ryan growing as a songwriter.
“We would often have days where we would just do take after take of a song. But we never got bored of it, you know? We just enjoyed our time together. I think that made us better musicians too.”
The album is often praised as a true standout in Ryan’s discography, and claimed to be a large breakthrough for Ryan. This album would be the first time certain themes appeared that Ryan would explore in future songs. It also shows the true bloom of Ryan’s production and mixing skills, showing a solid mix throughout.
However, the album is often touted as going on for too long. One reviewer stated:
“While the songs are solid in their composition and integrity, they damage themselves by overstaying their welcome in length. But truly, this can come down to taste, or just pure love for Ryan as a whole.”
All in all, the album is often a favorite among fans, and is often recommended for a first listen to understand Ryan’s pure sound.
